Is it safe?
Our class takes place in a structured, controlled environment and our students are specially trained in safe conduct. In the rare event of an injury, we have a fully stocked first aid kit in the dojo. Through our many years of teaching we have learned how to minimize and eliminate risks while still teaching practical and powerful self-defense techniques.
How Young is too young?
As a general guideline, students should be no younger than seven. At the present time, however, we have two six year old students in our Friday Kids Class who are doing very well. So, it largely depends on the maturity of the student and his or her ability to pay attention. If you have a child who you are not sure about, we encourage you to bring him or her to our school and try it out for a free class.
How Old is Too Old?
Our students range in age is all over the place. We have students representing almost every age category there is. For the sake of courtesy and discretion, I will not list the ages of some of our senior students, except to say that a beginner who is older would not feel out of place. I will say, however, that not every class activity is suited for every individual, but there is no pressure on students to take part in anything too demanding on them. One great aspect of our school is that we have plenty of low impact exercises that can get you moving without risk of injuring yourself.
When Will I Get A Blackbelt?
We can give you the standard five year estimate, but the truth is, we can’t promise you’ll ever get a Blackbelt. It’s all up to you. Some schools have a special fee that you can pay or program you can buy into, but if you wanted to do that you might as well just pick one up at your local sporting goods store. We say the time you put into karate will determine what you get out of it, and to us, a Blackbelt is only the beginning. But we can promise you this. If you want it bad enough, you’ll have it, and you will wear it with the knowledge that nobody gave it to you.
