Frequently Asked Questions
What are the advantages of taking your combative techniques exercises?
Why is this class so inexpensive?
We realize that by comparison, our school costs less money to attend than other schools in our area. Some people take this to mean that our school is not as good as the others. Not everyone understands that a karate class is one of the few things in this world that is often of better quality the less expensive it is. We are committed Tang So Do students, not businessmen, and we won’t ever impose contracts, financial deterrents, or unreasonable prices on our students.
Why do you wear a Karate Uniform?
Karate uniforms have no pockets. There’s no room for your cell phone, your palm pilot, or your wallet, or your train schedule. You can’t store your lipstick or your hair gel or your car keys in a karate uniform. A Karate uniform has no use except to practice karate. So peeling off your street clothes for class is your chance to shed all your worldly junk, and hold your focus on nothing but your own self-improvement.
What if I’m out of shape?
Personal fitness is of paramount importance to a Martial Arts practitioner, but that doesn’t mean you have to be fit to begin training. You will advance in ability and fitness at your own pace. You will surely find that after your first few classes you’ll wake up sore the next morning, but muscle soreness is common with any new workout routine. The difference here is that people who are out of shape will lose weight, tone muscles and they’ll also be learning techniques that can save their lives. You won’t get that from your hamster-wheel treadmill.
Who Will Teach Me?
The Master Instructor is Mr. Darwin Haynes who has taught for 35 years and developed a first-rate program, mixing the best of stand-up and ground fighting styles into a curriculum rooted in Tang So Do. Other instructors who will help you on your path to fitness, confidence and wisdom include Law Enforcement Official and 3rd degree Blackbelt Andrew Gronomin, modern weapons expert John Umpenhour, Police Instructor Robert Rice, and our human anatomy specialist Laura Lewis.
